A passionate cast, eager to learn
The Beauty Queen of Leenane - coming soon
After what seemed like a remarkable array of talent that auditioned for The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and after much deliberation, we are very pleased to announce the following cast for this superb dark comedy of a play by Martin McDonagh, writes Jeff Graves.
Maureen will be played by Bethan Boxall; Mag by Maxine Roach; Pato by Donal Brophy and Ray by Oscar Gibbs.
The Beauty Queen of Leenane is a masterclass in dark comedy and psychological suspense. Set in an isolated Connemara cottage in County Galway, the play explores the toxic, co-dependent relationship between a manipulative, aging mother (Mag) and her 40-year-old spinster daughter (Maureen), who serves as her bitter caregiver.
When a fleeting chance at love and escape arrives in the form of a returned childhood acquaintance (Pato), a fierce battle for control and survival ensues, ultimately shifting into a chilling mystery that ends with a stark, tragic conclusion.
To date we have had a cast read through where we had the opportunity for the cast to meet one another and to sit down and discuss the script and characters. We started our first couple of rehearsals only last week, exploring a couple of scenes featuring Maureen and Pato.
Although relatively early in the rehearsal process, we can already see what an incredible cast we have. All are extremely passionate about the play and are eager to learn from one another, as we have a group of individuals with experience in both theatre and film.
